An appropriate title today for a number of reasons I think.
First, there is my
personal and unofficial "holiday" today. That being fiscal
"New Year's Eve". At the stroke of midnight tonight, out with
the old and in with the new. As bad as the old was, this may be one of
this upcoming years where the new is not going be improved.
I will be my
normal optimistic self however and hope for the best, while expecting the
worst. If nothing else, it cuts down big time on disappointment.
It is an ideal day
today for the Homecoming Fair. Outside of a little heat, which I am sure
the beverage vendors will appreciate, the weather is suppose to be good.
The event falls on the Saturday immediately before the 4th of July, which
may help with visitors in town who have this as vacation week.
All kinds of
events in town this week also, related to the Bi-Centennial Celebration.
I believe there is a calendar of events on page A2 of the S-T today (it
is in there somewhere).
Everyone should
look at the calendar of events. Some of them are going to make traveling
around town difficult and impossible in some areas. Patience folks, we
will all need it. Keep in mind what the delays are about.
A week from
tomorrow is the big parade. My suggestion for you, get a nice folding
chair, stake out a spot along the route and wait it out by enjoying it.
It is suppose to be an extravaganza, and from what I hear a parade you
will not likely see in this immediate area for some time to come.
Two and one-half
hours of one I have been told. It is also a long route that starts in
North Fairhaven at Benoit square goes down and into the center by Town Hall and
then works it around and ends in the K-Mart Plaza.
There will be
inconvenience for some, and I have heard a number of meetings to resolve, as
best as possible the traffic issues, and safety issues. Nonetheless some
people are going to be inconvenienced. Realize that and deal with it.
Get your
newspaper, food, or whatever you might need early. Run your errands the
day before, plan on having to take a longer route to get wherever you
absolutely have to go. Better yet grab a chair, bring a cooler and sit
back and enjoy the show.
That all happens a
week from tomorrow. Worth planning for I think.
Enjoy the day, the
weekend, the holiday and week. Remember as bad as it might be, it most
likely still beats a stick in your eye.
