Well, it seems I have been sliding into blogging apathy. Truthfully, If I thought you were up to it, we could have a grand time with the presidential primaries. It could be loads of fun.
I mean our fair haven seems to have caught the Bern for the primary. Shame about the state result though isn't it.
What Fairhaven has in common in with the other New England Berners should be too hard to figure out. The thing it doesn't have in common with the others up north, or at least more of the Fairhaven Berners than seems common elsewhere, is that most of our berning fair havenites are actually true Democrats.
Amazing how many ways our little spot on the bay mirrors the demographics of north that find an appeal to the Sandinista philosophy. Just as amazing how the demographics of the cities mirror the opposite side. Kind of a shame that those on fire for the new philosophy keep ignoring differences that should be clear.
The hate to be preached to, I know. They do love grabbing the pulpit.
But, rather than get into a rant and a rage about the awakening of the others, the usually politically apathetic and most likely to revert to hibernation until the next promise of a free promised land opportunistic and newly energized voter, let's move on ...
Tomorrow night, March 9th, begins our local version of the "debate" cycle. I had been toying with the idea of really ramping up the dialogue on the race. Yes, I know there are several contested races, but there is one that only matters. You can pretty much call the other ones right now and right them off.
Absent some earth shattering scandal, and perhaps even if there is one, the only real one is going to be for selectmen.
I have decided to wait. I am hopefully going to get motivated enough to attend in person. This one has the added draw of the prevent "bake sale". Usually some good stuff, cheap. Apologies to whoever I stole that line from.
At this point I am just going to say there seems to be some interesting political thought evolution going on in this town. You see people lining up, and you just have to figure there has been some sort of epiphany of thought by some.
It is either that, or I really am losing it, because of the distinct memories I have of comments made by some supporters of the candidates. but hey, its politics, and it is politics in Fairhaven. Which in the relative scheme of life is no worse than the vast majority of other communities.
We will see what the four have to say on the various matters at hand. As always, be prepared for lots of rhetoric. With four candidates, and it seems questions to be asked by the press, at least one candidate aiming a shot in their own foot is probably a very good bet.
By the way, at some point I will get to the proposed budget. Call it a bit of hubris, but I don;t feel like tossing out an potential ideas for those who may be lacking them.
Hopefully, or regrettably depending on your perspective, I will bang something out Thursday on the great "debate", version 2016. If not then, well at least before the next one; but, ...
Until next time.
