A little bit late.

Another Monday.  A week before Christmas Eve, a new year two weeks away.  Life marches on.  Sometimes to a mournful beat, but it proceeds.

Today's Standard Times has an article on the status of the proposed wind turbine by-law.  Follow the link for the on-line story, or see page 3.  Interesting amount of space devoted to a proposal still being proposed.  Don't get me wrong, it is a significant matter for our Town. Just interesting that with all that is going on, this is a significant piece.  One might say conspicuous.  Quotes from only one member. Nothing from the chair of the Board, the Town Planner, any other member.  Just interesting.

Speaking of interesting, as I think I noted on Friday, tonight's selectmen's meeting could be.  Two appointments to be made to the planning board in a joint meeting with the PB and selectmen.  I am hoping to catch the meeting.  Was thinking about going but, that may not work.  Will have to record it or catch it later on video on demand.

If you were following the comments last week between myself and "The Code" I think it is worth noting that there is in fact a lot to be desired about the Town's web site and even the limitations with the government access.  I also want to note that I think the Government Access Director does one heck of a job with the budget and infrastructure that is available to her.  I think serious attention needs to be devoted to this and more foresight by the powers that be who control the franchise fees and the destiny of government access.

I will also note that despite the many short comings relative to the Town website, several people have recently made significant efforts at improving the information that does get on.  Efforts above and beyond their official jobs.  Efforts were suppose to have been made a very long time ago and that weren't.

The DOR report does deal with some aspects of the whole IT concept in Town.  The town itself needs to grapple with this over and above the recommendations, and needs to in fact put a proper IT program in place.  There was a significant investment made to bring this town into the computer age a few years back.  An investment that was made with assurances we would be putting in place what was needed to get this town into the 21st century.

Where we should be and were we are is a result of not lack of funds, but lack of implementation, foresight and follow through.  It is the result of leaving the task to be done in less than, shall we say an ideal manner.

We might be into the 21st century right now, but probably five years behind where we should be.  An opinion granted.

the most interesting development tonight should be the came plan for the DOR report.  Hopefully there will be one.  Moving forward on this is something that needs to be done.  Again, it needs to be addressed.  Whether the town decides to follow through with some, most, all or none of the recommendations, we need to seriously look at them all.

If you watch the meeting, let me know what you think of what happens.
