Quiet vices.

Despite all the protests whenever there is a perception of any inkling of censorship, the cries of freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to bear arms, and the accompanying cries about the founders, our constitution, bill of rights etc., we seem to be a society that is very willing to limit freedoms in various forms we complaining about those we don't agree with.

Our personal tolerance for such freedoms seems directly tied into our personal believes of what is right and what is wrong, and let's forget about anyone else.  Hit that magic majority, and when you are on the high side, that's all you seem to need to be right.

Just somewhat ironic how many people out there seem to claim that is all you need to be right if they are in the majority and how quickly they claim oppression when they are not.

Just a thought ...

Here is another one.  You may not know it, but I am opposed to any moratorium on the pot plants and dispensaries.  I know, I kinda, sort of indicated the topic was over.  It isn't and it shouldn't be.  The time and effort be devoted to the concept of needing more time and effort to come up with proper zoning solutions don't fly for me.

Granted my opinions are just that mine.  I will resort to the most basic of arguments, the sometimes convenient argument as noted above that  it is clear the will of the people of just about every city and in the state, individually and certainly collectively, was to allow such facilities, whether that will was informed or otherwise.  The measure certainly passed overwhelmingly here in Fairhaven.  Last November in fact.

The simply fact is that 2/3s of the people voted either intentionally or out of simple ignorance to allow such facilities.  As we have many times heard, ignorance of the law, in this case the one you may have voted for, is no excuse. I prefer to hold on to the concept that people know what they are voting for when they go to the polls.  The fact that is often times more a leap of faith than reality is unfortunately nothing specifically new to this particular issue.

The fact that you never in your wildest dreams believed it would happen in Fairhaven is not a valid reason. Sorry. It was always possible.  It should have been readily apparent.

Interesting "Our View" in the S-T today.  Would have had really high praise for the view except for throwing in the "marijuana research capital of Massachusetts" argument.  Talk about a hazy vision. These plants ain't about research. You don't have people lining up ready to pony up the kind of up front money needed to operate under the new law with the uplifting purpose of research.

I can save us all the turmoil about whether research for the efficacy in treating two to five percent of the county's population should be considered a reason to allow such a facility.  Despite all the smoke clouding the issue, I feel pretty confident that those legitimately using the new legalized drug will overwhelmingly experience the desired effects, say 95% or more.

We ain't reinventing the wheel here in the Commonwealth.  What new ground breaking research is going to be conducted in Bristol County that hasn't been done in other states and across the world?

Okay, I just deleted a half-dozen paragraphs of rant. No real point in it. Not today anyway.

Moving on ...

Took a quick run through yesterday's Harvest Fun Day.  Good crowd.  People enjoying themselves.  I didn't stay to long though. I didn't want to end up a contestant in the scarecrow contest. I figured I would beat someone to the punch on that one.

Quiet week coming up in town.  As least a quiet week for scheduled matters.

Okay, here is a little exercise.  On this point only, you are allowed one sentence to make a comment on either the best thing happening in town, the worst thing happening in town, or what you want to see happening in town.  One sentence.  Don't tie it into a larger comment on any other matter, but feel free to send a separate comment on something else. Don't offer an explanation.

Open line format will still apply today.

Enough for now.

Be Safe.

  1. I would like to see a deal made with cable company to turn the entire town into a wifi hotspot and yes I realize this would likely increase my cable rate.

  2. Despite being a small town with a population entranced and enmeshed in its' history, we are forward thinkers.

    1. I wish we were consistent in the maintenance of historical structures, i.e. the high school compared to the two former elementary schools.

I like the community presence at 4th of July ceremony at Fort Phoenix.

  3. Best thing in town- the Millicent Library and all it offers.

    We need more courteous drivers.

  4. A majority doesn't always dictate what's permitted. I can't remember who said it, "When something is changed to accommodate the right of one, sometimes it stifles the rights of many.
Case in point, when students are not allowed to wear t-shirts adorned with the American flag on it to school because another student 'is offended' by the display of Patriotism.

I would like to see the town act as a single town, rather than a "North" Fairhaven, "East" Fairhaven, "Village," etc.
