TGIF

Heading into the home stretch now and reaching the point in time to start putting your noses to the grind stone, diligently reviewing the warrants for the special and annual town meetings.  Make sure you mark your calendars for May 3rd, and don't forget the precinct meetings on Wednesday, April 30th.

The precinct meetings, or rather the session for all TM members afterwards will be beneficial in that changes to various articles should be available for review.

So pick an article, any article. Tell us what you think.

Should we spend $5,000 for an "asset" valuation for the former Rogers/Oxford school buildings?  Should we spend $2,500 for the restoration of an old table?

If you are a TM member you should have received the information from the Town Government Study Committee in the mail yesterday.  Yes or know on the proposed articles?  Can the TA article work without the BPW article?  Where do you see this committee heading in the future?

Where do you see this town heading in the future?

As bad as some may feel things are, on the whole we could be in a lot worse shape.  While certainly some of the stuff swirling about presently can be put in the reactive category, the bulk of it has to be looked at as a necessary first step in the proactive category.

While there seems to be three or four varying philosophies on what should be done, the fact we are seriously taking about what should be done is extremely positive.  Whatever happens or doesn't happen should be looked at as a necessary beginning.

To steal a bit of wisdom from Sir Winston, "Now is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."

The wheel of change is turning.  What we need to insure is that wheel is provided with enough of a push to get over that initial hump.  To insure that it does come come rolling back down hill on us.  The other problem of course is to apply the right amount of force so when we reach the submit, the velocity going down is not so excessive as to steam roll everything in its path.

A juggling act that needs to be mastered.

Anyway ....

That is it for today.

Be safe.

All is well and good when a town has a representative body to vote on how to spend it's money. But how long do you think it's going to remain a town's ability to do so? Nationalized healthcare- no choice. Nationalized education- no choice. Even what doesn't affect us in a small personal sense, we still have our own healthcare plan or we have no school-aged kids, does affect us. And we have no voice or control over the situation.
The end of the beginning? I think we're into the timeline a little further than that. And the most worry some thing to me, is the rate at which things are currently changing. $2,500 to restore an old table? As a spendthrift, I'd vote no. But to think the $2,500 saved will keep us afloat against the incoming tide? I don't know if it's significant enough to save us or for how long.
