It is Tuesday, Again

You know it is a slow news day when the local daily starts talking about potential candidates campaign finances for a run for mayor in the city across the river. See yesterday's edition of the S-T.

Still, it was a good start to the week.  If no news is good news, than fluff news is not bad.  Maybe we all need a bit more fluff.

A chilly start this morning, well compared to yesterday's temperatures right?  Amazing how a day or two of warm will make a morning of low 50's seem real chilly. Still pleasant enough to be out on the deck pecking away at the keyboard for the first time this season.

Anyway ...

I think I am going to like the new standard in town. The 90% good argument. It is going to be my mantra for the next 354 days or so.

It seems I have been too tough a grader.

I will have to adjust my bell curve accordingly. This will apparently mean adopting a test score that incorporates effort as part of the actual grade. Award a few more points for intent rather than the correct answer.  You know, the way some tests give credit for following the right procedure even if the end product is not correct.

Of course where conclusions are a matter of opinion so too is whether the end product is the correct answer. So to that end, one need just tweak the scoring distribution to get to that A-.

Good should in fact never should be sacrificed at the alter of perfection ...

but neither should the presently prevailing concept of the meaning of the phrase "good enough for government work" be the standard.

Anyway ...

On last night's selectmen's meeting agenda the matter of the special legislation and timing will be discussed. Off to Boston the things will go.  Changes as to form/editing only.  Suggested amendments if any which Boston feel needed would have to be approved by our selectmen, or if the same felt necessary submitted to Town Meeting.

Shouldn't be any major issues with an A- document though.  I assume it will be simply edits with that grade.

Anyway, the process has begun.  Votes certified. Certification sent to town counsel, who will send the stuff up. After that, it is a matter of waiting on our esteemed legislature.  Once we get its seal of approval, assuming a speedy process, a special election and a special town meeting seem to be in store.

Best after the fact question:  What does Section 1 mean?

Short answer: The TA act controls all conflicts.

Second best after the fact question: Well what conflicts?

Short answer: The ones you should have asked about before you voted for it.

And I am way short on time at this point.

Be safe.
