Small points

Looming on the horizon for all of us are a number of matters which are going to require the attention of administration, some of which are in desperate need of resolution and some which have been in need of some attention for a considerable amount of time.

If you have been watching the meetings, you will have seen the discussion with the animal control officer. I have already hear some barking on that.  An assistant?  Are you kidding?  Well, no they aren't, and you shouldn't be barking up the wrong tree on that one.

As has been oft mentioned in the past, the Town has to determine exactly what it wants and expects from each department, board, committee and town entity as far as services. Such expectations have to be in the realm of reality not only as to ability, but as to financial commitment.

In truth, the expectations of the general public and the town administration for this one person department are nowhere near realistic. The track record of tenure in this particular position has not been stellar.  That isn't because of all the people who have held the position. You have to ask yourself why that is.

The expectation that one serves in this job on a 24/7 basis is not, in any way shape or form realistic. The expectation that this job entails any animal problem the general public encounters is not in any way shape or form realistic.

Can you run a one person department? You sure can.  We can go along with the SOP and replace the person when they burn out or don't meet the unrealistic demands imposed on them every three or four years; or, you can re-establish and set a realistic SOP for a one person department. Or, if we continue along the SOP do everything and anything you are asked, we best consider getting at least some additional help in that department.

Guidelines. Missing from so many of the day to day operations of too many of the departments and operating day to day. Expectations, well you can certainly expect more from less to a point, but eventually that expectation has to give way to reality.

Anyway ... just a point about that point.

There are a number of points that one could make a point out of, but at this point in time one has to ask just what would the point be. Perhaps the point would be no more than the self-serving satisfaction that one gets occasionally from beating a dead horse with a stick. After watching a tape of another meeting this morning, it was extremely tempting.  Thinking once, twice and three times about it however I concluded it is best to let some things just slip into the history books.

With that being said, I suppose that is enough for now.

Be safe.
