Tuesday's Forecast

Take out your hammer and nails, start pounding the lid closed, and real tight.  You might as well, because  after the latest comments going around from Mitt Romney, it should be the time to do it.  The "victims" statement, be it off the cuff, or not eloquently stated as he claims, is enough in my mind to seal the lid shut.

Too many miscues, too many dumb statements, too many things that keep happening that shouldn't.

With the tragedy in Libya, the smart thing would have been initially to just issue a condolence statement, wait at least a couple of days, and then criticize the response from the President.  Should have been obvious what one should do.  It wasn't.

As far as the "victims" tape, I haven't seen the "whole" thing, and actual intent is beyond any one person's knowledge other than Romney, but I do know if your running for president you best be smart enough to know your feet belong on the ground, not constantly in your mouth.

I can't see him being able to get his act together to make the drive to win the election, and I can't say that he should win either.  Every election presents you with choices, and while there will be more than two names on the ballot for president, the only realistic chance is for one of the candidates from the two major parties.

Call it the lesser of two evils or the best of the two.  Its what you have either way.

Strikes.  The biggest one right now is the teacher's strike in Chicago.  Supposedly we will know if the work stoppage ceases sometime this afternoon or early this evening.  Someone asked me why I even mention this strike.

The reason is simple, because the ripple effects will most definitely occur.  The ripples will reach across the nation, in large districts and in small ones.  When this one is over, we will see exactly whether the same results in just choppy water or a tsunami.

If the union delegates don't vote to go back to work, the mater is going before a judge in Chicago Wednesday morning.  If it gets to that, expect more than just choppy waters on this one.

Thursday is the first Brown vs. Warren debate.  My breakfast bet is looking shaky right now.  I have to remember to set the DVR since at 7:00 P.M. on Thursday as I will be otherwise engaged.  I think this is an event that does make Thursday "must see T.V."

To date, many have described the race as style vs. substance.  I have read many things put out by both sides, and the press.  I heard the speeches each gave at their respective national conventions, the policy pages, etc.  I dub it so far as style vs. style.  I truly look forward to the substance.

But that is why we all should be watching.  To judge for ourselves.

Truth be told, if Obama wins re-election, which I believe there is very little doubt that he in fact will do, I want a GOP Congress in place.  For everyone beckoning a return to the Clinton era, remember exactly that is what existed from 1995 - 2000.

Those were the "glory" years of his Presidency.

A divided House and Senate beckons for gridlock, and quite frankly, even with Romney as the Republican candidate, I don't see how the differing races can work out for the Democrats to regain control of the House.

As to the why, well I will leave it up to you to do a little research.  You can start by Googling "Clinton Presidency GOP Congress".  Take it from there.  Dig a little.  Do some other searches.  See what you find.

Yes I know, Obama isn't Clinton, and today's GOP isn't the same as the 1990s.  But the times make the person, and hopefully all persons involved will be up to the task.

Locally, our selectmen met last night.  Not sure what happened after the point where the package store license was discussed. It is not because anything confusing happened.  There could have been something.  I just fell asleep.

So if you saw something that might have been worth staying awake for, let me know.

Some rainy and windy weather heading into our area later today into tomorrow, so plan accordingly, and as always, be safe.

  1. Huh? A GOP Congress with Obama still in the White House will be a disaster since the idea of actually governing will be orphaned at the side of the road by Tea Party ideologues who continue to scare the bijeezus out of moderates.
