Last night's debate was interesting to say the least. I would have to give the edge to Obama. No knock out blows. Both the CNN and CBS post debate polls have viewers giving the edge to Obama.
Most notable is that the break down of questions on leadership, handling the economy, etc. all are in favor of Romney. Go figure.
For everyone whining over the debate moderator, get over it. It is what it is, and what it is is over. Romney held his own. Neither one of them was a superstar except in the eyes of the blindly devoted. the early post debate polls, to anyone willing to actually pay attention shows those who watched had very favorable opinions on Romney on key positions.
I have no problem with an aggressive moderator. In fact both those guys needed an even sterner handler last night. I have never seen two candidates do more detours from the actual questions. the moderator may have stuck her nose in a few places where she shouldn't have. So what.
It happens. You deal with it and move on.
The best part of the debates has to be the running commentaries on the social media. I really hope most of it is just hype, You know zealous commentary to puff your candidate up. I hope that because if the stuff some people post is actually what the believe, we are all in trouble.
It will take until about the end of the week to see how this one plays out in the nationwide public opinion polls.
Personally I was hoping for some super performance from one of them to put this baby to rest. It is not to be, at least until the third and final one.
Moving on ...
There is a very good opinion piece in the "National View" segment of The Standard Times on the Benghazi attack. It is not often you see such a measured article taking both sides out to the woodshed for a well deserved spanking.
While on the matter, I take my hat off to Hilary Clinton, Secretary of State for the Untied States of America. Her pronouncement about responsibility is an example of those who represent you doing the right thing. She may have in fact done more for the Obama re-election campaign then all her husband's campaign stumping.
It seems though that the"buck" doesn't stop at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue any longer.
Speaking of the "buck"
According to the WBSM web site, Dartmouth Town Meeting last night passed the Voc-tech article for an addition and to spend its bucks for its share. The Fairhaven STM will be held December 4, 2012 and will deal with the matter. If my memory is correct, there will be a presentation before the Selectmen on October 29, 2012.
I got a question for everyone. Should this matter be left solely in the hands of the selectmen to determine whether Fairhaven will do likewise?
On another matter, I have had someone question the veracity of my information in yesterday;s piece on the historical society. I will note the piece was pretty clear in stating that the info about the involuntary revocation was obtained from the online records of the Secretary of the Commonwealth. I again checked those records this morning. I again obtained the same information. You can check it for yourself by following the link.
I will apologize for not providing the link yesterday.
It seems there is a serious move afoot to resolve the ongoing saga of the Tourism move prior to any further hearing before the selectmen. I would imagine there are some who don't want that "buck" stopping at 40 Center Street now. I can imagine why too.
The process to remove the "involuntary revocation" is a fairly simple one. Just takes a bit of actual work. Of course the process to have avoided it in the first place was even simpler.
It goes without saying, for most people I think, that the solution to the whole building fiasco was actually a no brainer from the start.
Reminds me of the old saying, why do they call it common sense when there is so little of it.
The wounds suffered by the private group are self-inflicted. Whether is can recover from those wounds or not, will be its sole choice.
If the responsibility for the cost of construction of a new school, or the renovation of an older school in Fairhaven is not the sole decision of the Selectmen, then neither should the responsibility for the cost of the Vocational project. Just as the citizens decide the fate of Fairhaven's projects, likewise the fate of the Vocational project should be decided. We take care of the 'students' in our town, and the Fairhaven students who happen to be educated at Voke, ought to be considered in a similar manner, by the town's voters, not solely by the Selectmen.
ReplyDeleteAbout the relocation of the Office of Tourism: Sometimes a person(s) need to do what might not be popular, in order to do what's right. The Selectmen should have settled this issue long ago, if not at least, since the move was voted for. Being independent of both parties involved, it appears to me that the continuous resistance of the society hasn't been justified. The Selectmen need to get involved to resolve the matter.
