I start with the hope everyone made it there the storm safely. Our area was fortunate, compared to those elsewhere on the East Coast. I had ventured out in the early morning Monday, did what had to be done, and saw enough then to realize it might be a smart thing to simply ride it out at home.
Final damage for us, a few branches of varying size, some stressed out pets, and too many bowls of ice cream (just in case power went out you know, needed to get rid of it). We were fortunate.
Watching the news, this truly was a mammoth storm. The pictures of damage, the floods. Down right eerie to see the NYC under water. The inland snow storms spawned fro Hurricane Sandy are the stuff that will be remembered for generations.
We made it through without losing power. Had what I call a surge outage for about a split second. Other than that, we made it. Very unusual because we usually loose power in any kind of wind storm. I know areas in town were out for some time.
I have to say, the most awe inspiring pictures throughout the storm were those of the soldiers who remained on duty guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Solider.
Unfortunately the storm will be causing havoc and problems for days.
There were too many stories on the cable stations related to possible impact on the election.
The silver lining in the storm clouds of Sandy is the fact that the campaigning was suspended for a day or two. Wish the same could be said about the talking heads on television (I know, I could simply shut it off, but being as weak minded as I am, I need my daily lessons of indoctrination).
Believe it or not though, I am not planning to watch the last Brown/Warren debate tonight, and truth be told either are you. The candidates have each agree to cancel the debate tonight in light of the storm damage. No word on whether it will be rescheduled.
The draw of John King moderating might have drawn me in at the last moment though. I enjoy his commentary and pieces on CNN . Intelligent and insightful.
Not sure whether they actually had the selectmen's meeting last night. Notice on the town hall bulletin board (the electronic one) at 1:24 P.M. was the meeting was still scheduled to go forward, but appointments would be rescheduled.
I had a few things I started working on yesterday for today. Election related. Comments on polls, candidates, etc. After yesterday, I am sitting here realizing I have all most recent the information burnout point. Polls: there are two many of the darn things. I am learning though to ignore the ones that don't provide reference to the back up data. I am learning to look at not the date of issue, but the dates the poll was taken. I have actually seen some release over the past two days, based on data more than three days old. At this point, near useless.
The comments from the faithful on both sides. You read enough of them you realize that they essentially are interchangeable.
The name calling. Seriously, just what does that accomplish. Calling someone dumb, stupid, or worse proves your point how? Everyone on both sides needs to get a grasp on reality.
Of course if elections were based on intelligent exchange and debate, who knows what would happen if people didn't have the opportunity to channel their hatred and intolerance through the political process. Trust me when I say this, both the masses comprising Democrats and Republicans have shown the simple fact that hatred and intolerance knows no political bounds.
Enough of it. One week for today, the voting will be over. Staring a week from tomorrow, we can all begin to rant about who stole the election, how ignorant the people who voted the other way are, and how the sky will fall because of the "winner".
Wisconsin becomes extremely important in this election not because of its electoral votes, rather because of the ability to supply what many will soon need, that being some cheese to go with the whine.
John, too bad the photo being circulated about the Tomb of The Unknown Soldier was not real - in the sense that it wasn't taken during the time of Hurrican Sandy. The pic with the three soldiers was actually taken in September. The blasting of this photo across Twitter and Facebook actually caused the Old Guard to release ACTUAL photos. Not that it should change your/our view on the discipline and dedication of the Old Guard.
ReplyDeleteSadly, there were a number of photos that made their way around the internet yesterday that depicted Hurricane Sandy and were also fake.
