Surprise Edition

Occasionally you will run across a line from an actor outside of their scripts that is worth paying attention to.

"I got a feeling about political correctness. I hate it. It causes us to lie silently instead of saying what we think." - Hal Holbrook

In that "spirit" ... here is a PC version of a very old joke ...

Two nations had a border war that lasted about 15 minutes.  One side planned a surprise attack.  Confident of victory, it started the war by throwing hand grenades across the border. The battle ended when the other side picked up the grenades, pulled the pins, and threw the grenades back.

Even in the above form the joke is probably not considered 100% PC, but the principal behind it is very relevant.  So cleaned up, does that make it a half truth or a half lie?

Anyway ...

See the article in The Standard Times confirming the fact that the developers issued a press release stating the turbines would keep operating.

Lots of interesting quotes in the article. One point to note, at least one point I think worth noting, is the developers didn't say the turbines would operate because a notice hasn't been served.  According to the article, it was reported that one of them:
would not say if the operations would be curtailed once an order is received saying, "we'll have to see what it says."
Don't count on the order stating anything that is going to change the developers' minds at this point.

Based on the hearing, should be a pretty short order.  Based on the findings made and evidence presented, it could have been hand written on less than a half a sheet of paper, signed at Monday's meeting and served in hand right then and there for the camera.  Would have been a heck of a lot cheaper and just as effective as the one that will eventually be drafted and signed and served.

Yet who knows, maybe there is another surprise in store.

  1. The residential abutters around the wind turbines should now be considered human subjects in a health and political experiment. They have done every thing they could to prevent unnecessary physical and mental suffering from the out of compliance wind turbine noise.

At what point is this experiment of human subjects going to be brought to an end.

The wind industry standard for building wind turbines is above 25 acres per turbine .Fairhaven has two commercial wind turbines spaced within two ten acre lots. I don't think you'll find two wind turbines this close together in the United States . This alone could also be an additional factor with the wind turbine noise.

Looking at the Big Picture this whole wind turbine issue right here in Fairhaven could bring down the Massachusetts renewable energy goal of 2000 megawatts of renewable energy by 2020 to a halt as far as commercial wind turbines.

The state from the governors office and the legislature see the quickest way to reach the renewable energy goal is through commercial wind.

Over the past few years at various wind turbine meetings I've heard this over and over about commercial wind : “If You Want to Make an Omelet, You Must Be Willing to Break a Few Eggs.”

The question now is how many eggs are OK to break? How many families have to suffer ?

NIMBY used to mean Not In My Back Yard now it means Next It May Be You

  2. Sensationalize much? I've had it with this "human experiment" or "sacrificed on the green altar" nonsense. Always with the buzzwords and scare tactics, equating aspects of these turbines to VIOLENCE. It's demented. It's more than obvious that with statements like this, there is no reasoning or logic associated with this type of viewpoint. I can't even take it seriously, it's so irrational and extreme.

Nobody can tell me why the BOH voted the way they did, what gave them the authority to do what they did, and what compliance issue are they actually voted on. Without it, the vote seems rather arbitrary, or worse - not legal.

To date, I'm not even aware of an instance where the turbines have been declared (by an actual legal and regulatory definintion) OUT OF COMPLIANCE. Has any policy been vilolated? Has any notice of noncompliance or violation notice been served? By anyone?

It's pretty obvious that the developers (or their legal team) also has some questions as well. And more than a few answers. Hence the toss-back.

    1. What gets me is why the select board wants this town to be sued so bad?

How has this town shown good faith to the developer?

The developers haven't had a chance to fix the problem.

Why 7 pm to 7 am? They lose 12 hrs day? How can they fix it when they have to be turned off while the problem exists??
      Seems early to me..
Is it because thats what Falmouth does???

Why would the select chair apologize for something that he signed off on and didnt have a problem until he became chair?

Why wasn't the town allowed public comment before the shutdown?

and if my facts are correct the 20% of non compliance areas are not in the area with all the complaints from how many households? the 60db max is the equivalent of laughter...10 db a dishwasher, google it.

Oh, and how come nobody has a problem with an aerobic digester and sewage treatment plant in the exact same place as the turbines and that has surely has NOTHING to do with their property value could it?

    2. Maybe nobody has a problem with the digester or treatment plant, because they honestly don't. And since they've been completely honest in those cases, why are so many people doubting what they're saying now?
Does anyone really think those people have nothing else to do but complain about something that's not 'really' bothering them?
Why don't we approach the situation by agreeing there is a problem, and what can be done about it?
