This week's Fairhaven Neighborhood News contains links to the Judge's decision in the election case and the statement released by Peter DeTerra. Both worth your time to read. There is also a link to the weekly edition and an article in it on the decision worth your time.
The article on the selectmen's meeting for the annual West Island meeting on the "Hurricane" Plan, and some other very important stuff. Various segments of this meeting will serve to highlight why people continue to be unable to understand exactly what goes on in this Town. Sorry to say that for last Monday's multiple subject exam on town operations, the only way you end up with a passing grade is to use an extremely generous bell curve.
Lots of good stuff in the weekly this week actually. The article on the Board of Health meeting at Noon time on Monday (this past Monday not the one held at Noon a week prior). Interesting read indeed.
Lots of interesting stuff, articles, letters and announcements. As soon as I get done chuckling over most of it, I might write about it too.
There is an old saying about opinions, one that I can't put down here without violating the rules of the blog. So use your memory for that one. It applies to every opinion by every person, including this writer. Something a I do my utmost to always remember.
The one thing I do have an opinion on at the moment, is while some the faces have changed on the election seen, it has not spelled the beginning of the end of politics as usual. The players have changed, the parties with certain ins have changed, but nothing nothing else. Unless of course you factor in the skill level of the players.
Take it for what it is worth, think what you will, but don't insult the intelligence of the average person by saying politics as usual has changed. The quality of how that blood sport is played has certainly been affected, but the sport still goes on, being played by the same rules.
Believe it or not, I do bite my tongue on occasions, and as unbelievable as some may think, this is a specific example of it. It would be just too easy to specifically point out exactly how politics as usual is thieving. Heck past posts are littered with such examples. But for today's post there is no point to be won by such an exercise.
There are no angels treading the path we are now traveling.
Why do some people think the town ought to be responsible for addressing every individual's need in the case of an emergency? We shouldn't have to spend our lives in fear that at any moment the 'sky will fall,' but we, as individuals do have to take a certain amount of responsibility for ourselves.
ReplyDeleteWe do need to accommodate residents in the event of a major disaster, but that doesn't mean we as a town are responsible for making everyone's residence livable throughout a disaster. All residents should be clearly informed of the shelter locations, hours, and their responsibility to get to one in a timely manner. In no way do I think it's the town's responsibility to get those with pets to the pet-friendly shelter in N.B.. Owners now need to have a plan to get there, in case they need to go in the future. It's the same way a parent doesn't ignore a two day storm warning, and not stock up on diapers.
I know you didn't mention the sales pitch from the solar challenge people, but after watching two different representatives working over the select board at two different meetings, who didn't expect a similar style of sales pitch on the street? They should have mailed the information and stated, "For further information or an appointment call...." That's it.
The Board of Health issues are far from over.
ReplyDeleteA new page has been launched on Facebook about the Fairhaven wind turbines called : "Friends of Fairhaven Wind. " The page looks to turn back on the turbines 24/7 as soon as possible and sites the abutters of the turbines as a small group of people. What does "small group of people" mean you can kick them to the side of the road ? The town is made up of lots of small groups of people .Which ones do you care about ? Only the small group that lives down town ?
The Massachusetts DEP has found the wind turbines out of compliance and the Fairhaven Board of Health has notified in writing that the turbines are a nuisance. This is a confirmed health issue.
Commercial wind turbine contractors in Massachusetts have historically divided one end of town against the other. The formula is money for the majority of the town vs the health and well being of residential abutters of the wind turbine projects.
The courts have ruled Facebook communications can be treated the same way as letters and emails in court. Some posts can be used as evidence of crimes and subpoenas do not have to be issued. (New York State Supreme Court Justice Spinner)
My suggestion is to give your posts some thought before you post on Facebook
"The Massachusetts DEP has found the wind turbines out of compliance and the Fairhaven Board of Health has notified in writing that the turbines are a nuisance. This is a confirmed health issue."
DeleteNo, it is NOT a confirmed HEALTH issue. This is 100% incorrect, wrong, misinformation. Nuisance conditions DO NOT correspond to health issues. Please, stop it with your nonsense. Read the regs, policy, case studies and history before you offer your opinion.
The regulations (310 CMR 7.00) and the associated policy address noise pollution/nuisances. This is an extremely far cry from a health issue as you describe. The regulations are not health protective in the way you purport them to be.
Why do you continue to present misinformation?
If DEP found these to be out of compliance, why have THEY not acted on that Compliance? Can you provide any notices or letters to back up your claim? Why weren't the developers allowed to mitigate like any other industrial/commercial institution is allowed to do? Care to address that? Or do you just want to spread the same misinformation?
Gotta love how the ANONYMOUS person will write in and point out that people who stand up and use their actual name, and speak their mind should be careful. Real hero you are!
I absolutely agree that a whole bunch of people should gives give a whole lot of thought to their facebooks posts.
