One step at a time

Relief, an overwhelming feeling at times.  It can put one in a state of near euphoria.

It is absolutely the only way to describe the news late yesterday when I learned of the decision which essentially affirmed the fact that the board of health had overstepped it bounds.

I am talking about a decision several states over mind you.

The one in New York concerning the attempted ban in NYC on super-sized sodas. Bet I had you going there for a minute didn't I.

I know, in poor taste perhaps, unless of course you happen to enjoy taste of a gulp or two of liquid sugar now and then.  It is an important decision nonetheless by an appeals court.  It is a decision that highlights a simple fact that even a broad powered board has limits to what can legally be done.

Truth be told, there is a certain amount of relief that comes from the decision of our own local board of health.  I would describe it as euphoric.  More along the lines of simply about time.

The relief from the fact that there was a decision.  The relief from the fact the very brief proceedings did occur in open session, but based on the bit in today's The Standard Times article, I am guessing that had more to do with the letter from that paper's attorneys more than any other reason.

So you are aware, you can catch the 17 minute video of the meeting on the Government Access channel starting today, and utilizing the on demand website feature.

Interesting explanation from one member about her concerns relative to the motion for the chair to get the information together relative to a consultant.  As pointed out by a commentator for yesterday's lat night special edition to the blog, his pending election was a concern.

I suppose I can grasp that somewhat.  I mean if he loses, who is going to take over?  Will the work done to that point have to be re-done?   I am of course just guessing.  Certainly the political connotations didn't come into play.  I mean I didn't hear any other options presented. So what was the alternative, not to move forward with an attempt to hire a consultant?

Anyway, it is what it is.

Good or bad, next step forward on that journey of a thousand miles.

Between last night's extra blog and the above, I think that is enough.

Be safe.

  1. Now all the anti wind people will have a purpose after this vote. They can monitor the wind speeds at nite an send their findings into the BOH if they exceed the noise levels set up by the state.Keeping in mind they need the proper equipment to do this.Or they can trust windwise to do it for them an protect their investments...

  2. I think you're confused about what Windwise supports. They aren't the ones with the investments that need protecting.
It will be interesting to see what Selectman Murphy's next move will be based on last night's decision. How will he now assure the residents get the good night's sleep he promised them? Plug in the waffle iron...
