It is the start of a very big week in town, week day two of the work week anyway.
Selectmen met last night to deal with the regular stuff and finish up on the warrants. Wednesday is the night for the precinct meeting/warrant run through. Friday is now the date for the joint meeting for the selectmen/school committee to fill the vacancy on the school committee.
Saturday is of course the day for the Annual and special Town Meetings.
One way or another folk change is coming as a result of the meetings.
There are going to be several matters of disagreement between the right and left side of the stage, different committees and the stage in its entirety, different factions in the audience and different factions on the stage. You get the scenarios.
You will be provided competing recommendations, and you will need to exercise your collective wisdom either by your vote as a Town Meeting member or through your representative at Town Meeting who hopefully takes into account your feeling and opinions on the matters since they represent you.
One or two points on recommendations. First remember that is what they are. Recommendations. If after weighing all the factors you feel it is not correct, than don't follow it.
I have said it before and I will say it again, there are a number of matters every single year which when wearing the hat of the committee on which I sit, I may not personally agree with the position, however taking into account the position, a stance other than my individual preference and wishes is warranted. This year will be no different.
It is the collective wisdom of the body that is Town Meeting that is what controls. It is that collective wisdom that has played a large part in the continued success of the Town. When you add everything up, the operations still run in the success category.
The ledger sheets are starting to even out though. Success is also becoming more and more a matter of perspective.
I am having a split personally over several issues to be frank, or in this case Jekyll and/or Hyde.
I attended the selectmen's meeting last night. Wanted to make sure I stayed awake for the discussion on the TGSC articles. The board voted to yield to petitioner on the Information Technology article.
A rather curious move since the selectboard will be involved.
The BPW article recommendation was for indefinite postponement, along with with the town administrator article. I suggest you try and catch the tape for the different reasoning.
The selectboard has voted to support the TGSC's existence for another year, along with a funding request for another $5,000.00. Personally I agree with this point. More on that another day.
As to other matters ...
One thing to keep your eye on is the hearing for the pot plan before the planning board on May 13, 2014. Notice is in last Thursday's edition of the Fairhaven Neighborhood News. Second kick at the can so to speak if you were opposed to such things in the first place, or became opposed to them only when it looked like they were coming to Fairhaven.
It will be interesting to see the results. I think people tap into my calendar to find days to schedule things to keep me away. Can't really blame them too much if they do I suppose.
Anyway, not much of a blog after a few days off.
We will see if that can change.
In the meantime, be safe.
