It is Monday, or "50/50" day

The half of it. Repeatedly I hear about the half of it I don't know. Every little issue, every "minor" spending miscue or oversight. I am told if I only knew the half of it.

I am not told of the other half. More likely than not I am not entitled to hear of the other half, and whatever probability exists that I am in fact so entitled, I will most often than not, at this point in my service, prefer live in blissful ignorance. The standard state of mind for too many.

In applying a concept that one learns through life, one can assume that half is probably not an accurate assessment anyway. Time, experience, observational assessments, and a few other cogs and widgets, have indicated at least to me that the true impact of such figures (the half of it), will often be an overestimation of the half that is good, and an underestimation of the half that is bad.

Call it the pessimist in me, but when I hear how good or bad something is, it never turns out to be that good, and seldom is only that bad.

If that doesn't make sense to you, not to worry.  If you knew the half of it, very; little would make sense to you.

Anyway ...

A question often asked, an observation often made, why do we spend so much time at a town meeting arguing over little money matters, and let articles amounting to millions pass on a conveyor belt set to high speed with no debate.

Indeed why is there so much time spent throughout the budget on the little thingies.

Could be we are just simply lazy and and go after the easy stuff?

Could also be that the little things are the most easily understood and grasped?

Could be that the thought process behind the little things is what lends itself to the most controversy?

Could it be a combination of the "could it be" stuff, plus more?

I do think it could be.

The little stuff is important.  It is the little stuff that tends to snowball out of control first.

In the sad but true world, give an inch, lose a yard.

What do we have to look forward to this week?

The latest and greatest study for the two old schools is due by the end of the month.  Let's see if that end means this month. Why that would be today, wouldn't it?

We have the 4th of July.  Fireworks and everything.  Seems to be one or two fuses burning in town. whether the same fizzle out or ignite a rocket or two remains to be seen.

The Magic Number is 306. For me anyway.

Days to the next town election = 281. A lot of interesting prospects for this one.  If you can't figure out why this one could be interesting, well you just moved into town.

Let's also not forget that is probably going to be the date the BPW fate is sealed one way or another, or should be the day.

It may be that there is a call for a special election on that if the legislature sends back an approved special act prior to the 1st of there year.

The continuing bits and pieces on that that aspect of this continue to surprise me. First, someone has to provide me with a clearly compelling reason why this matter should warrant the costs of a holding a special election in the first instance.

Seriously.

Might be good for statistics and bump up the voting percentages for the annual.

Folks, it will in fact be up to the selectmen to determine the date when the election can be held.  But it cannot be held until there is something to vote on. Okay.

And again, what clearly compelling reason would there be to hold a vote prior to April?  I am sure there is one out there, I just cannot envision it. Can you?

Okay, enough for today.

Be safe.
