Not quite new yet

What to write about today?

There are many topics, just not many that seem to get the fingers limbered up enough to tap at the keyboard.  Hard to get the mind in gear between Christmas and New Year, I guess.

Heck, I was just perusing the town website and noticed there was a BOS meeting posted on the calendar page last night. Completely missed that tidbit. Did they actually meet?  Did anything happen? Dang, I feel like somehow I have violated my duty as a good citizen on this one.

Not that I would probably have watched it.  Just that I should have been aware of the fact I was intentionally ignoring it.

With no agenda posted on the website, I can't even get worked up about anything I missed, assuming it actually happened.

Well I suppose nothing to do at this point but look forward to the upcoming New Year.

There is a whole lot to look forward to.  Now often one looks forward to something good happening. Plenty of potential for that.  The political pundit looks forward to both sides of the coin for things at times though.

The good side to look at will be the start of the "new" government.  It will be good, folks.  Long term it is a definite plus.  Short term, whatever bumps may appear, it is good to get the process going.

It is what it is. We have what we have. Now is the time to make things work as well as they can given the tools that we have.  No different than the past in the sense that we have a playbook that has to be followed. Sure, the team might have some difficulties executing the new plays at first, but the old play book is no longer valid.  We either modify and adapt to the new system, or we have the good grace to get off the team.

Shifting gears ... kind of ...

I was thinking how unfortunate bookmaking is illegal.  Think of the betting lines you could come up with for the potential issues.  Earliest date a town employee appears before the selectmen complaining about the new system.  Who the town employee is. Number of times you hear the excuse "but that is how we have always done it". First time a citizen complains to the selectmen about the TA.  First selectmen to try to individually command the TA.

I can gone on and on and probably will.  One line I would not put out is the previous mentioned "how long he lasts".  I am hoping this guy lasts the minimum five years he said he plans to be around.

What I would put a line on though is the over and under for number of employees who don't outlast him.

I think that once this guy starts thinking about what goes on operationally in this town, we are going to see a shift in some operations.  That will probably take a year or two. But it is stuff that has been known and debated for a number of years.  Just not loudly.

Anyway the political pundit does indeed look forward to the new year.

Hey just some rambling midweek stuff.

Until next time...

  1. I truly hope Mr. Rees can push that boulder uphill, I'm not a betting man myself, but lets face it, the odds are against this poor bastard. Godspeed Mr. Rees, Godspeed.
