Election Day Update (Again) & Tidbits/Issues

Election Update

We now have five people who have pulled papers for Selectmen.  Until the filing deadline all we can do is assume that this is going to be a very crowded field.

This should be an interesting year.  In additions to multiple candidates, we have the many issues facing our Town (and yes that is plural).  Passion and zeal about a particular issue may be reason for motivating someone to run, the ability to handle all the issues is the reason someone should be elected.

Candidates are going to need to be able to address them intelligently, and offer answers.  Trendy catch phrases thrown about to placate certain groups should not be enough.

The internet promises to be used in this election more prominently. Candidate web sites/pages are up and running (some for  a while now).  Use of the social network is in full swing.  There are interests groups with their own sites that promise to be adding their two cents worth (in fact have been; and, I would be remiss not to include this blog in that account).

I ask everyone out there to not take anything they read on line at face value; and, that includes anything you read here.  Become informed.  Look for information on both sides of an issue.

Get to know the candidates.  Ask questions and get real answers, not sound bites.  Just important as someone telling you that they are going to change this or that, is having them tell you just how they intend to do it.

Tidbits/Issues

No. 1

Word about this blog seems to be spreading.  Got some free advertising today.

Seems one group in town with a website decided to cherry pick some comments from the "Fairness Doctrine, Part I".  Got to give them a thank you, because the hits for the blog today have been real good.  The seem to particularly like the line "Politics is the original blood sport".

Not sure the problem they have with that statement, especially since they seem very adept at the game.

No. 2

It can be enlightening when those who cry for justice and fair play ignore the very concepts.

No. 3

Governor's version of House 1 is expected on January 25, 2012.  If you are a candidate for Selectman, after its release, please let us all know how you plan to deal with the town budget for FY 2013 after its release.

No. 4

Got an issue to address, or would like to see addressed, or just have an idea for a topic, let me know.
