Anonymous Comments

Someone brought up the point in the government change post; that they wished there were not any anonymous comments allowed.  I can understand the sentiment.  If you are going to say anything, have an opinion, it would be nice for people to know who you are.

Let's face it, this is the internet.  Anyone can sign a name to anything.  Unless I wanted to spend the time calling everyone who wanted to comment for verification, what's the point in requiring people to identify themselves?

Certainly, it is only fair that people know who you are, especially if your action is to be taken seriously.  Fairhaven has always been receptive to open discourse.

There will always be those people who have their reasons to stay anonymous.  I can understand that somewhat.

From a personal perspective however, when you urge people to become involved, when you want them to get off the sidelines and take action, when you are going to level criticisms, if you want others to do these things then the least you can do is put name to what you have to say and post on the internet.

I don't require people to do put a name to comment on this blog because in the end the purpose is open up a dialogue on the issues.  If giving them the option to stay anonymous will do that, then I am fine with it.  It certainly gives your comments more weight if you disclose who you are, but that is and will remain your choice.
