I was going to go for four in a row last week, but having done the turkey a day early, and given what Thursday was, it just didn't seem appropriate to try and make it a ham bone.
I suppose it is time to start dealing with the serious issues we face at this critical juncture. I mean time is ticking away. It just seems hard to get serious about anything at this particular point.
Part of the reason for that is when you read some the the information out there, limited as it is at this point, it is really hard to stop ... how should I put this ... from hoping most of this is just some kind of ... to put it kindly ... a mistake.
I have mentioned it before, and I will mention it again, when have you ever seen three people from one disbanded committee run in the same year for the same office? Well not quite running, announcing they intend to run; and, with a fourth challenger to boot.
In fact, thinking about it, all four of these challengers actually spent time on that former committee. One having resigned early on in its inception. What might have happened had there been a member on the committee throughout who expressed, fought for and stuck by an opposing position or two?
Anyway ... How is that for trivia? All for opponents this year served on the TGSC. As a bonus for a trivia game: two were there from beginning to end.

Now, as noted information is a bit limited. I am talking about the information out there that John Q. and Mary J. public have. But based on that limited information, the several Marys and Johns (and that doesn't included the voices in my own head) seem a bit perplexed.
You see folks, people actually do read stuff. Maybe not as many as should, and maybe not as critically as should be done, but read they do nonetheless. When they read something that is a bit out of the "norm" the pondering begins.
Three have issued campaign statements essentially saying, I am the best for the job, and as soon as I figure out your view points, concerns, thoughts and where you want our Town to go, I will let you know what I am going to do. The fourth has to this point followed the time honored tradition of touting qualifications.
If you are running for office, and I hate to say this because of the too often lack of candidates running for office, you should be able to articulate what it is you are going to change and do, before you actually run.
It really should involve a bit more than I want to be selectman or whatever, at least in what is admittedly a personal opinion when you are running against an incumbent. Sorry, but if you aren't going to do a better job, political ambition just doesn't cut it with me.
It could simply be you don't like the incumbent and think he needs to go. If so, fine. Tell us what's going wrong at this point? Why do you want to unseat him? What are you going to do to make it better? Most importantly tell us exactly why you are better and that let us know you aren't going to be coming in with a different set of "problems".
Personally I can't wait to be told and/or reminded about some of the successes I am sure will be touted. Claiming the laurels for a successful remedy to a problem can be a landmine filed you need to consider stepping into.

Anyway ... until success claims become actual, no point in addressing them, nor perhaps the occasional misstep?
Well I suppose it is a good thing I didn't try for the ham bone. It would have made a pretty lean soup.
Despite the number of ingredients that can be thrown into the pot, some stuff just isn't filling enough and with any recipe, mixing some ingredients too soon will spoil the dish, or in this case future posts.
Hey, but all is bright on the horizon!
Hey, but all is bright on the horizon!
Well will soon have a new town administrator under that 90% good TA act which rumor has it was pointed out to the screening committee may make it to 90% on a bell curve but ...
We have a bright and rosy financial picture...again somehow defying all the detailed projections.
Can't wait.
Until next time.

Bright an rosy financial picture you say,I guess the assessors got the message an raised our property values to make this happen again. As you once stated ,projections are all in the eyes of the projector. We are again going to be the payers of these good or bad projections..Can't wait for the projection of the TA" s salary.
ReplyDeleteWhy is this town run by morons John, why? Let's just take the wrecking ball to the two schools, be done with it and get some free open land, problem solved.
ReplyDeleteWell I think morons is a bit harsh. Personally, the wrecking ball theory has always been appealing. Problem one is there is still money involved to do that. Problem two is the history factor. Not a problem for me mind you. Keep in mind living in a community is a collaborative exercise. What gets done doesn't have to make sense, it only has to get the support of the majority of people, which is usually the ones who "get involved" as opposed to the true majority.
