Sometimes writing these post can be hard. If I was just interested in the wow factor; in awe and shock; or if the truth didn't matter, I could bang these things out without much worry or effort.
There have been several things happening on several fronts which would lend themselves to easy ramblings and rants. Just the silence by some on recent events could lend itself to two or three eye popping "stories".
So just how do I start out the new week? Let me see ...
There is a whole lot of disagreement going on right now about what is fact and what isn't. Who is an expert and who isn't. Who is an independent expert and who isn't.
I have to chuckle at times how that term is thrown out by some (independent expert).
Another serious point of disagreement I suppose.
It will be extremely interesting to see how many of these "independent experts" meet the standard of an expert witness if they ever have to testify in court.
It will be even more interesting to see how many of them would be even willing to take the witness stand to attempt to be qualified as an expert.
And it is in the courts, as I have said before, that the issue will be resolved. There are certainly some legal issues that still remain. Fairhaven's scenario is still dependent upon a finding by the court that the selectmen did not exceed their authority.
At some point, somewhere, the issue of infrasound will get litigated. At some point somewhere, both sides will be put to the test. War of words, mutual claims of junk science and worse will be set aside and the need to actually prove what you are saying, by both sides will have to happen.
Diminished value claims will also arise, which I will add, they absolutely should. I have seen what we in the trade call "hired gun" opinions from some real estate appraisers on the effect to property values. I have also done enough reading to know that this is an issue that will not disappear for some time. I am not an expert in condemnation law so I am not going to assess the chance of any such claims arising from this project. But people in close proximity, who do suffer a loss should I think have a right to compensation. If they have the legal standing, they have a mechanisim to be made whole.
Just a couple of weeks to go before the deadline for filing papers for the next election. Again it will be interesting to see who turns their papers in.
One thing for sure, the May Town Meeting will be interesting. Always a bunch of new faces when there is a "redistricting" election. Of course there are some in town banking on that fact. All the STM meeting articles for the February meeting have been submitted for the May meeting.
If at first you don't succeed!
Once the deadline for turning in papers has passed, I will have more to say on the election. Got one post under my hat that I am not letting out until then.
Thinking about doing a post, would probably have to be a series of posts, on tactics in elections (tactics is code for politics). I think the recent debt exclusion vote and the battle that raged in town would be a prime example to use. There were some severe tactical mistakes made in that election (by both sides believe it or not).
Present groups in town could have learned some lessons from that election regarding their tactics.
What do you think?
