As we roll into the second unofficial day of summer I have taken the step to return to the deck in the early A.M. to to my blogging. A bit chilly this morning, but I am happy to be out once again.
Seems like someone also told M.N. about summer having unofficially started. Outside of showers being forecast for tomorrow, the days it looks like a beautiful week in store weather wise.
The Memorial Day parade in Town was a nice event. Crowd seemed larger than last year. Two days of being idle due to the rain over the weekend might have helped.
It should be a slow week in town. Call it the calm before the storm, because I imagine the rhetoric and the activity will be picking up steadily between now and say the 10 of June.
We managed to stay out of the newspaper for a day, so that shows you something.
The new water and sewer rates have been posted on the Town's website.
The deadline is looming for applying to the town government study committee. As has been noted in the past, the make of the committee is going to go a long way in determining on the chance for success for any recommendations issued.
One thing I would like to see happen, is the board of Selectmen to continue to work on its draft of a proposed town manager. Nothing says it can't, and quite frankly I think it should. Unanimous agreement on all aspects is not needed. What is needed is a thorough process and frank discussion as to what and why.
People need to hear more than the DOR said so. They need examples of why it would be better. They need to understand why from a financial and operational perspective it makes sense.
Maybe a few input meetings over the next few months devoted solely to the town manager issue.
Keep in mind, any system you have in place is only as good as the people you have in the positions. The more components to any systems, the more likely a breakdown.
What we have is a system in need of repair with no real owner's manual to guide us. There are similar mechanisms out there that can provide some guidance. The issue now is what do we do and how do we do it. May the team of mechanics to be put in place be up to the challenge.
Enough for today.
Be safe.
