On track for one down.

The path for the fate of one building is determined.  In 2 -1 decision, the BOS has selected the 62+ elderly housing option  for the former Oxford School.

Note that the decision puts us on the path to resolution.  Still need to hammer out details, potential zoning issues, and ultimately a TM vote.

That ultimate vote, as described in the article about the matter in The Standard Times, is anticipated by some ... one ... to be a lively one.  we will have a miricle worker in town, because soemone will have put life back into a dead issue.

The debate may get lively in the sense that we might see an attempt at an impassioned speech or two. But the issue is going to be over if there is in fact a warrant article.

If that path that has to be traveled leads far enough to the actual TM vote, I for one will be most interested in hearing the arguments against at that point that would breathe life into any other option at that pooint.

As I have said in the past, the crack in my crystal ball sometimes prevents a view of things too far in advance.  So, I might be missing a point or two that could be raised to derail an article to authorize the transaction.

But as is often noted on the pages of this blog, life is what it is. What it is at this point, and going forward is limited on this issue.  Need to get the details hammered out. Need to figure out the "zoning".

Odds are the details will happen.  Zoning, well don't know enough about the sticky wickets there, so don't know what happens.  Assume it gets resolved, then the only points of contention for a TM article are what?

North Fairhaven has too much housing presently.  See anything else?

The traffic?  If you were paying attention, the old folks look like less traffic than the other thingy.

The other thingy having more "quality"offerings for Fairhaven?  A definite matter of perspective. Don't get me wrong here, I am not opposed to a food pantry.  The other stuff, if you pardon the specific generalizations (love that term by the way), "potential" uses are not a proposal.

Again, not interested in having faith that it will be good because I think it will be good.  There ain't to take backs on this one.

The price?  Well, what one group is welling to pay and invest, leaves the other group far behind.

The rationale for the sides on the split vote. See yesterday's piece I suppose is the best way to sum up the difference in reasoning.

Essentially, no matter what your feelings, just how lively will this issue become, IF it makes it to the Town Meeting vote, will depend on some would be thespian attempting to create a platform for a a self-important soliloquy. I see it as a yawner at that point.

By the time you reach May, the time for more patience and dealing with this building will have completely run out for the vast majority of people in town.

I can see far enough in my crystal ball to tell you that IF the proposal makes it to TM floor, it passes.

But hey, that is simply based on today's vision.  Some individual or some argument may come out of the woodwork to alter that cloudy vision.  Just cannot see any argument or individual right now who is going to change it.

Anyway ... Until next time.

  1. Finally a decision that makes sense to use this building.A food bank? a rec center,we have one that costs us more than we receive.other uses not noted.Senior affordable housing a win win.Lets hope the Rogers school will also get to be used for other purposes sooner than later..
