I take very seriously the issues raised on today's S-T editorial page. It seems that in a period of four days, however, the S-T has done an about face. Why? What information became available during that period for the newspaper to change its opinion.
Did the paper make any attempts to find answers to the questions asked relating the the turbines?
I have been thinking about today's editorial a lot, and trying to figure out how any newspaper can do an about face on an opinion piece in a four day period (see the S-T "Our View" piece on January 11, 2012).
There has to be something the S-T deems so damning that merits the change.
I am not trying to be "cute" here, but if there is something out there to warrant the reversal of opinion, an opinion you presumably used due diligence to form prior to offering it on January 11, 2012, then in the interest of transparency, in the interest of the public's right to know, please let us know!
I know the opponents to the turbines are reading this. In all sincerity, if there is a smoking gun out there let us all see it.
John, it does not matter one way or the other. A newspaper's "opinion" has no real value except to please those who happen to agree.
ReplyDelete(This is my third try at posting this comment. The other two seen to have gotten redirected into the internet wilderness.)
I agree to a point. There are still those who will rely on the opinion rather then do their own research. It was meant more as a rhetorical please. I do not expect any explanation.
ReplyDeleteAs far as difficulty with the comment, thanks for letting me know. If you or anyone experience this in the future, let me know (do you know where in the wilderness you were sent)?
How can a responsible newspaper publish their editorial opinion without researching the issue and the various "sides" of the story? It makes me question their 2nd about face editorial. Is it based solely on the information provided by the Windwise group? Did the S.T. then do their own research on that information. I'm not suggesting that all of the information provided by Windwise is inaccurate, but rather that some of it is assumption and hypothetical, the faulty special needs theory especially.
ReplyDeleteA newspaper's opinion matters to WindWise and FairAction. They frequently post Opinion pieces in leiu of factual information.
ReplyDeleteI also wonder about the "new" information. If there happens to be no "new" information, do you think the S-T will have the fortitude to offer a correction or re-revision of their opinion?
