Sunday rustlings

Well seems the S-T managed to cull through some past blogs and came up with a quote to use in today's edition.  The quote was at the end of the article concerning our present state of affairs (of a political nature) in the Town of Fairhaven.  Might have been nice if they could have taken the correct spelling of my name from the post they used, but hey ...  in the relative scheme of life, if that's the worst thing to happen today, it will be a good day.

I am only going to add, again, that I firmly believe in the charter commission being a positive and necessary step for the town to take.  A great many communities have adopted the standard to mandate a review every 10 years.  A review doesn't equate to change; and change does not automatically equate to radical differences.  A review nonetheless needed in my opinion to see what may be needed, what can be done and what the people will accept.

It has been 25 years, give or take a tick of the clock, since the last extensive review.  Some things a were adopted and some rejected.  Over all, one has to to acknowledge that those changes did help Fairhaven a great deal over the period.  One must accept the fact however that in a changing world, everything need to be looked at periodically to ensure that what we have meets our present day and future needs.

I again emphasize the vital point that should there be a successful petition drive to get the matter of the charter commission  on the ballot in 2013, people who seek to run for a position on the commission must do so with an open mind.  Yes, by all means we will need diverse opinions and outlooks on that commission, but we as a town will need individuals willing to work together toward a common goal, being what is best for our town.  If the individuals who will be elected sit with a predetermined outcome, with no willingness to explore options other than their own, then the committee is doomed from the start.

I am confident that the Town of Fairhaven will be able to find and elect 9 good people to do so.

Speaking of elections, the town election is three weeks from tomorrow.  It is on a Monday.  April 2, 2012. Mark your calendar now folks.

The meat and potato portion of election season is starting this week.  Time for all the candidates to stand up and be heard at the various debates/forums which move into high gear.

Make the effort to get out and see at least one, catch it on t.v. If you can't (pretty sure at least one is going to be taped and aired on ch. 18).  whatever you can or cannot do, make sure going to the polls on April 2nd is the one thing you do in fact do!
