If I am a spendthrift suggesting one number, what does that make you if you suggest a higher number? Just a question.
Life is what it is folks. Again, the mantra is perception is 95% of the battle. One should never underestimate the importance of the remaining 5% of that battle though. How many times have we seen defeat snatched from the jaws of victory?
The key element of the 95% concept is not what an individual perceives as best, it is what everyone else perceives. The best laid plans concept.
Quite frankly I am guessing all of us have numerous ideas which we personally believe would be best. Just as I am guessing how perplexed we are at times at why others cannot or will not see what we consider obvious.
Just some more of those rambling thoughts I guess ...
Anyway, moving on ...
Six weeks and a couple of days until the election. Unless things somehow magically heat up, I am guessing we will be lucky to break 20%. In the believe it or not category, most people are finding it hard to believe we have another election coming up. This one is the "annual" folks. First Monday of April, every single year.
With only two contested races, even with one of them being a Board of Health race, there isn't much of a buzz out there.
Some shake ups in the round of sponsors for candidates' nights. The Town will still be doing the Government access night. I am guessing the West Island folks will continue with the long standing event down there. Still the best format and best organized as far as I am concerned.
I am hearing the NFIA is not doing its night this year. Supposedly there is a blurb in one of the papers somewhere. I am also hearing the Fairhaven Business Association will be stepping in
You know what, I am sitting here typing away, staying away from a topic or two intentionally. Part of the reason is I need to dig up just a bit more information, and the other part is I don't have enough time, haven't all week really, to do the read it once, twice, three times bit.
This has been a weird week relative to demands on time, for some really weird stuff.
Sorry, that is it for today.
Be safe.
On the opinion page of today's S-T, a Mattapoisett resident is lamenting that Fairhaven doesn't plow it's portion of the bike path, while Mattapoisett does. He claims that, "The plowing will not raise taxes." I can't imagine voting for a tax hike for the sole purpose of plowing the bike path. But I also can't imagine which department is willing to surrender a portion of it's funding to pay for the plowing either.
ReplyDeleteJust watched a portion of the town's departments budget request meeting on govt. access. Why is it that other departments explained their expenditures, but the school dept. presentation went like a press conference? Prompted by the chairman of the select board, no less. The police didn't compare their dept. to neighboring towns listing how many arrests they made. And the DPW didn't go on and on about how well they maintain the sewer system. Viewers wanted to hear figures not self-gratitude.
ReplyDeleteOf course Acushnet students are choosing FHS. Look at their choices.
DeleteWhen it snows the highway dept.plows an sands the public ways .When did the bike path not become a public way. They cant sweep the streets, clear brush, patch holes .an numerous other duties when there is snow on the ground. There is no excuse for not plowing the bike path. The highway super is being a baby cause he cant get a certain piece of equipment. Our selectman are dropping the ball on this also. The police chief said it was good access in the winter, what happened to that, did he also change his mind.It has nothing to do with budgets or OT its mostly being obstinate.
