A day late and a dollar short?

Because I said I would:

The Gov's proposed budget was released. Quick glance shows a net gain in the $100K +/- range.  Better than a sharp stick in the eye.

The preliminary Net School Spending charts are out too. In an interesting twist, the figure is up only about $11,000.00. That's the smallest increase by far I have seen. Need to pour over the various sheets to figure that one out.  But hey, it is what it is.

What it ends up on both aspects will be determined down the road when preliminary and proposed become final.

Other good news, seems our required contribution to Voc Tech is down by just under $90.000.00.The foundation enrollment for us is down by 2 students.  New Bedford's enrollment increased by 2 and its contribution went down by approximately $46,000.  Dartmouth's enrollment increased by 32 and its contribution is going up to the tune of $421,000.

Now strictly on the bottom line approach, the proposed budget from the Gov is not a bad thing. It is not a jump for joy thing either. But anytime you see the proposal and it is a net, even a slight one, it is better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Just a tidbit or two of note I suppose.

And for another tidbit ...

A really interesting "rumor" circulating about the doings occurring in the fiefdom of our eastern realm. This one might have a big impact come April. I am trying to nail down a firm source on this.

I know, I am being a bit of a tease here. But I am guessing it won't take long for this one to become a bit more widely known, if in fact there is truth to this one.  Because this one could be a bit decisive, in all honesty it wouldn't be fair to let the cat out of the bag too soon.

In the politics and strange bedfellows category, some of the alignments going on just keep getting stranger and stranger.

I am hearing a certain faction has pretty much split over who to support. In the fractured fairy tale that is politics, nothing earth shattering with that event. But when you start hearing the names of who is backing who, it is sometimes somewhat amusing, especially when you can remember what who use to say what about who.

Back to the budget ...

In truth, I am not all that sure how worked up I intend to get this year, if at all, over the budget. That includes local and state and even the federal.

The budget process is like a perverted Goldilocks system. Too much, to little, never just right.

Too many different taste buds out there for any budget to be palatable for all.

Right now, if feels pretty good not having to deal with all the ingredients involved in making the porridge. Nice to be just another bird chirping.

Anyway ...  until next time.
