Going to the Trough

Another Friday, another week that at times seemed as it would never end, until I woke up this morning and realized, it was over.  At which point, I am thinking I need another day to finish things up.

You know that nut I keep talking about.  You know, the one besides me, the one that shouldn't be too hard to crack, well it has been cracked, and not in a good way.  Someone took a 20 lb. sledge and busted it right open.  Shattered it into a million pieces so it is inedible, but hey it is open.

I always reach a point where I think I have seen it all.  And sure enough, something happens to make me realize I haven't.  I am at the point where I am seriously regretting having cut my hair short, because having it long enough to pull out at this point might actually be theraputic.

Think the refrain from the classic Stealers Wheel song.  Cause that's where I seem to be at right now.

No, none of the above has anything to do with the election. Yet in many ways it has everything to do with it. I realize there are some out there who think they have all the answers, and stand on the morally superior high ground.

Do I fault anyone for believing they are right.  Absolutely not.  Do I blame anyone for taking shots at me.  Again, absolutely not.  No one has put a gun to my head to do what I do.  Where I start to get a tad upset is when someone decides that the makeup of town meeting is worrisome and equates that body to a feeding trough.

The majority of town meeting members I know are good and decent people.  Hard workers who have made a commitment to serve their town, not just when convenient for them, but out of a belief it is their duty to do so.  They made a decision to serve out of the ideal that one should do so, not because they want things done their way.  They are good and decent people.

No one is obligated to blindly accept the votes of town meeting.  No one is, or should be, expected to withhold their criticism of any vote.

By all means advocate getting people to run as write-ins.  Make that push to get a voting block to accomplish your own political and personal agendas.  Then tell me how you are any different than those you complain of.  Because you have decided your the principles are the "right" ones and they are all wrong?

At my height, I am use to people talking down to me.  I think one of the reasons I tend to raise my voice so much is that those standing in the lofty heights might have trouble hearing me.  If I fail to exhibit the proper decorum, I am not the only one.

Another thing I think is that every present town meeting member, their spouses, their children, their neighbors, their friends, and those who know them and of them ought to seriously consider just what is being said about town meeting members.  Of course it doesn't apply to every town meeting member, just those of you who happened to vote the wrong way in someone elses opinion.

Then when you read the rest of that letter, after you have done that, determine for yourself whether you really want to follow the recommendations of someone who considers most of you worrisome, and whether you or the one you know has developed into a feeding trough.

There was a letter written last year on the school building issue that galvanized the supporters of the one school option.  You know, the one that is going to happen.  But for that organized effort, the new school option would have failed.  You think I am wrong on this?  Do the timeline on your own.

In this case, whether the "town meeting feeding trough" letter will accomplish the same, who knows.  The time span between its appearance and this election is short enough that it may have little effect.

I understand exactly what some think of my "politics" and political m.o., but for what it is worth here is a bit of advice that should be universally accepted, but apparently is not. When you endorse candidates it is perfectly acceptable to take a swipe at their opposition; and, it usually is considered a very bad idea to slap in the face a significant segment of the voting population.

However, I think most town meeting members are capable of figuring that one out for themselves though without having it forced fed to them.

With that said, let the spin begin.
