It always is what it is.

Predictions.  Come September 10th we will still be debating the turbines.  I know, not a hard one to call there. Heck for however long the things are there, we will be debating.

Speaking of debates, or for what passes as debates in today's day and age, the B of H candidates will be at it on Thursday I believe.  Assuming nothing has changed and I haven't missed the change.

Selectmen meet tomorrow night.  Another full agenda.

Today's blog, if you have guessed by now is going to be a bit scattered brained, like its writer. So ...

Pet peeve of the day, week, month and the past few years ... the misuse of the word noisome.

PACs.  A PAC is a PAC, no matter who, what or the why involved in its formation.  It is an organization formed with the specific intent to influence elections.

Be you David or Goliath, if you are a PAC, your goal is exactly the same.

Prediction #2.  Legalized Medical Marijuana.  Ten years or less you can cross out the medical description. That's the time frame I see it taking this state to go the Washington and Colorado route, not to mention the federal government taking the same route.

Pardon the poor taste pun, but all local communities will soon be facing a new "green" issue.  As with most state imposed matters, the minimum regulations and standards will be in place.  The main local focus will be limited around whether you want to be more restrictive, not less; code and regulatory enforcement, and zoning.

Observation:  If you follow the chatter but verbal and written, you may just notice that both "groups" in town seem very unhappy with the press coverage.  Sometimes over the same story.

Only two ways I know of to guaranty a matter gets printed the way you want it to be.  Start your own newspaper, or buy ad space.

Back to the election.  Who do you think is going to win and why?  Assuming you have a prediction that is. Mine is beginning to form. I think I said recently there are certain tells showing.

The biggest one however is in fact yet to show.  Again turnout.

Yet other things are being observed.

I still think a third candidate could have walked away with this one.  That didn't happen so it is a two candidate race, driven by one primary issue.

I will only be applying a two prong test to this one.  Head and gut are in, heart is out.

I will be getting to my prediction at some point in time, just not today.  If you have a prediction though, feel free.

Saddest part about this election.  We will be seeing essentially the same scenario start up again all too soon for the April election.

Enough of nothing for now.  Enjoy what is suppose to be another great weather day.

Another open line format if you want to comment and don't find something of interest above (which you very well may not).

The only thing left to note, Be Safe!

  1. I'm voting Wethington. A decision based on several reasons I'm not completely sure are logical reasons. At least it will negate one vote for the opponent. It's time for a change.

Maybe the former Rogers School could be the medical marijuana dispensary. Remember how many people thought the visitors center belonged in the center because it was central? If a larger location is needed, then perhaps the former Shaw's. Both are near the bike path, which if you travel the path, seems to be a popular venue for lighting up.

  2. I'm voting Deterra, because I think Peter is a genuine person who cares deeply about the town of Fairhaven, as evidenced by his record of public service.

But I'd be lying if I didn't acknowledge that part of my opinion is based on the childish behavior of Mr Wethington's most vocal backers. It's okay to disagree with public officials. That is everybody's right. But the character assassinations, boorish behavior, and name calling must stop at some point. This small very vocal minority has 2 officials in place already who operate in the best interest, not of the town, but of this group that they belong to currently. Mr. Wethington seems like a nice, intelligent, sincere gentleman and he says he won't be held accountable by the rabble rousers, but that's what the selectman and the other BOH member said also, and I see how that is working. Unfortunately, I'm not willing to take that chance. (Sorry, John)

My only hope is that we have a high percentage of voter turnout. Otherwise we will see more candidates voted in 9% of the town's voting populace, and saying the people have spoken.

A friend recently sent me an article concerning the elimination of librarian positions in public schools.
If there were not budgetary constraints, I'd never want to see a school without a functioning library. But aside from the money I have a problem when the position is filled, but not for the purpose intended, i.e. in a case where a personal agenda is being served.
A few months ago, a local school librarian wrote a letter in support of the position, of which part was published in the FNN. I was surprised to see the list of duties of the school librarian, because my kids did not experience the majority of it.
The school district, in it's restructuring (they're doing a lot of that lately, in case you didn't know,) made a decision to hire an IT specialist this year. Part of the conversation around this position, was that she will be helping teachers incorporate technology in their classrooms. I have no problem with a little technology, but this reeks of Common Core implementation.
I value a library and it's staff. I believe reading and comprehension are two of the most powerful skills. But unfortunately, I'm also convinced that what's going on in our schools today is not for the betterment of students, but for twisted bureaucratic purposes.
Doesn't anyone else wonder why parents don't clamor when cuts are made to the schools? I think 49% can't be bothered, and 49% are convinced the schools are on the right track.
I'm part of the 2% who doesn't believe our schools are on the right track. I no longer care if they replace the librarians because I don't support the 'service' they provided.

  4. Why is everything a conspiracy for you Michelle? If you had bothered to pay attention, you'd know that the high is going to have a library with a librarian. This has nothing to do with the common core and it sounds like you may need to really learn what that is instead of listening to Glenn Beck.
