I suppose as long as I continue to do this little exercise, and keep it geared to the very confined spaces of Fairhaven issues, I have to resign myself to the fact that comments are going to be limited. To those of you who do comment, I extend a thank you. Makes life interesting at times, and in a very positive way.
There is absolutely nothing wrong with public discourse on issues. Indeed if you have a good idea or plan, it can only be to your benefit in the long run to get it out there, being discussed, argued and analysed.
I suppose my at times "cryptic" writings does not lend itself freely to public discourse either. Admittedly, much of what gets put down on these pages does require the reader to be up on local happenings.
Anyway...
Most of us were taught at an early age, and remembered the lesson, that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. A little later in life, most of us were also taught, and unfortunately to many of us have forgotten, that just because you have a right to do something, doesn't make it the right to do it.
There are a lot of "right" things done in this town, and a lot of things done the "right" way. I will leave it at that.
Numbers. Everything is being driven by numbers. Add another $144,000.00 to the potential "deficit" in town. Why you may ask?
While on the income side the amount money coming into the town from the debt exclusion and related loan votes was listed correctly, the amount that will be going out, i.e. the expense was not.
There have also been a number of adjustments to projected revenues, and while everyone seems to want to be "conservative", no one is coming out with the "cuts" needed to get to that unknown conservative number.
Numbers don't lie. they can be used in various ways to make or break a point. You can change them, you can do a whole lot with them. But once you state this is the "number" then you have to actually make all the components that add up to that number work.
Getting to the number is where life is always so very interesting.
Short and sweet for today. Stay dry and be safe!
Just because few people comment, it doesn't mean that only a few people are reading or using your "exercise" as a source of information about the town or things political. To be accurately informed, one has to look at what's written or aired in many places. We can't read just one paper and think we know everything about an issue, but when we read something that strikes our interest, we further our reasearch on the matter.
ReplyDeleteMyself, and probably many others look to your blog for a peek as to potential hot topics in town. It's helpful to read referred sites so we can be more thoroughly informed.
Maybe one of the reasons more people don't comment is because they don't want to 'put their neck out' about certain topics. I have to respect people more for commenting and taking a chance of being on the opposite side of an issue, than remaining in their shell and complaining about town departments and issues.
And sometimes, your view on things is the laugh I need on a given day. Keep up the good work.
