A Sunday Comment

I was sent the below as an e-mail with permission to reprint what I wanted.  I want to reprint the whole thing because it is worth your time and attention (unfortunately I don't know what to do to get the pictures, but this is a cause where words speak must louder than pictures anyway).

One of my concerns with the 2013 election is the BPW race; there is none. So we cannot even pose questions to the candidate in any forum, as they don’t show up because the candidate forums do not allow questions of uncontested seats(a huge mistake)!  I am not sure what happens to Mr. Haworth’s seat at this point. Not sure it is proper to complain to ask the questions to Mr. Haworth, since he is not running for BPW and the questions don’t pertain to Selectmen’s race…With the newest seat being uncontested, four of the five commissioners live on West Island or Sconticut Neck, Precinct five. I have watched as commissioners, while walking or jogging around there precinct 5 neighborhood, notice things and then use their authority to “send a couple of guys with the truck to fix that”. While they send trucks to maintain this or that near their homes, what about the rest of the town where they don’t personally walk every day? I had to take photos and personally ask the commissioners to address issues on route 6 in East Fairhaven that lasted almost five years. They don’t walk or jog in that stretch, evidently. It is the most dangerous street in town. The state is the entity to maintain it, but the state did maintain it once the BPW finally asked them to. I had noticed that Mattapoisett and Dartmouth were pretty clean and Fairhaven was neglected. I still see things that would not be allowed in Precinct five to occur all the time elsewhere. (Need a survey to prove it?) We need to make sure we have equal representation with boards and committees, when and if they have the ability to actually direct manpower and town equipment to benefit all areas of town. I hope this can be expressed in the reflecting of new study of town government. I still believe we have certain rules, that are now evidently in question, that were placed to address problems. Officials act on what they see and neglect what they don’t. Can we still learn from our past mistakes or does the current crop of officials have to see it with their own eyes to believe it? Code of Fairhaven Attached some pics to show how bad it had to get and still nothing by BPW without formal citizen complaints. Please feel free to reprint all, none or portions of this email as you see fit.
