All is quiet for the moment. The kingdoms that are Fairhaven rest easy.
But hey, it's 5:00 in the morning and I haven't opened the newspaper yet.
There is a running joke going on right now with one or two stating that I think I can walk on water. Truth be told, I really can't, and neither do I think I can. It is just at times, when the most expedient path is across the "lake", over the years I have learned where all the rocks are hidden just beneath the surface.
There are not going to be too many more of those skips across the lake in anyway event.
As to another matter which I am hearing about and for which I am still hearing my name thrown about, I want to state as I have stated before, should the government study committee article pass, I will neither seek nor accept a seat on the committee.
At this point in time, I don't think I could sit on such a committee with too much of an open mind. Less than a year ago, I firmly believed I could. Now, well ....
Anyway, as the saying goes, it is what it is; and, what it is is stuff that has to be dealt with.
If it helps, I am guessing we will finish up in a day.
People seem pretty much to have made up their minds on some of the big issues which could have potentially dragged out the meeting to more than one session. Selectmen and fin com are pretty much in unison on the money issues.
That's not to say TM Members will necessarily agree, it just keeps the debate portion between the two sides of the stage way down.
I am sure we will spend some time on streets. There is the article for the proposed land purchase, or purchase of development rights or use of Town money as basically a financing source to make a deal work, however you wish to view that article.
The government change related articles will take some time, but not to the extent once thought.
Whether the contracts for the unions which have been agreed to as of right now get the "contested" treatment remains to be seen.
The absolute certainty I have after this budget season is the absolute need for change. We cannot afford to continue running this town down the same beaten path for much longer.
I am going to end this here, with a quote you may have seen me use previously. Think about it.
"I cannot say whether things will get better if we change; what I can say is they must change if they are to get better." - Georg C. Lichtenberg
We've watched the fiscal tsunami coming from the west for years. It wasn't much of a concern, because we weren't feeling much of the effect. And while more people are finally beginning to admit it's real, many others continue to ignore the eminent danger.
ReplyDeleteA department head stated during a recently televised meeting, a survey of a group of employees within his department revealed that 97% of them are very happy in their jobs, and love doing what they do in this town.
It sounded very similar to what Manny Ramerez, Pedro Martinez, and Johnny Damon had once said. They loved Boston and it's fans- until money was an issue.
It reminds me of the lyrics from a Billy Joel song- "Well they started a fight when the money got tight, and they just didn't count on the tears...."
How much more land do we have to buy to protect the bay. Do we really think our paltry sum of $200,000 will stop this deal from going thru.me thinks not.We bought some land a few years ago to increase senior housing in town,to date no housing ,only a former happy landowner who got rid of a bad investment.
