I think I am going to start wielding a bit of s sledge hammer to a teapot on a few issues.
No surprise there. I have been told subtlety is not necessarily one of my strong points by some. Not necessarily the worse thing in the world to be perceived as less than subtle. Sometimes like being as dumb as a fox.
Today's piece is going to be another short one. Again I find myself having followed the read it once, twice, three times rule. Actually I read a whole lot of things three times. Some things many more than three times.
That's how you learn and remember things, at least that is how it works for me. Phrases like "a community would strive to generate" stick in your head, especially the "strive to" and especially when some start using the phrase from the source and omit the "strive to".
It is important to know what is contained in a document, both what is favorable to your position and what is unfavorable. The cherry picker ignores that which is unfavorable. The cherry picker doesn't try to counter it, deal with it or eliminate the reasons creating an unfavorable aspect. The cherry picker simply ignores it.
Just an observation ...
Attaining a goal is a good thing right. Attaining that goal and sustaining it over time is an entirely different matter. Such sayings as used often here come to mind on that concept. It is a marathon, not a sprint. Winning a segment doesn't win the race. Winning the battle vs. the war. I am sure I have other ones that have been used. Oh, let's not forget biting your nose to spite your face.
Consistency. That is a thing we should strive for and expect in many aspects of government. What we usually demand on the individual application is well yes be consistent, however in my case there are special circumstances. There are a couple old sayings, one is "Good facts usually make for bad decisions". The other is "I rather have the facts on my side than the law".
This is as disturbing as any aspect.
Anyway, today is truly a garbage day. Mood is such that a true rant would truly lead to a throwing out of the baby with the bathwater. We need to keep that baby. It is definitely time though to change the water.
Be safe.

Are today's students REALLY learning more than students did years ago? In Sunday's S-T there were several articles about changes in the methods of teaching in a 3rd grade classroom of a New Bedford school. One of the paragraphs starts off, to the effect of, "This is not your father's math.... " Who's kidding who? They are learning mathematical word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The only difference between how they are learning it now compared to back when, is that now kids are instructed to create 16 steps to get the same answer we got using one. Does anyone really believe this type of instruction is going to of create a nation of rocket scientists? We'd be more lucky if Johnny and Suzie could read at grade level.
