I have a big grin on my face today. I suppose its the "I know a secret grin". Hey I am only human. I love it when I find out something that I am not suppose to know. It won't last too long. Very soon the cat will be out of the bag.
I will tell you one thing, the lengths some people will go to actually make something go away, it is always mind boggling. Sadly, some people have a problem that just isn't going to go away.
I would tell you the secret, but I love surprises. While it won't be a surprise for me, it may be for you, so I won't be a spoil sport. Besides, I don't want to steal another's thunder. I want this one to come out, and more importantly I want it to be specifically proposed and then endorsed by a few people. That would bring a really big smile to my face. Then we can concentrate on the real problem and see how creative some can be.
Right now though, it is enough to let them know that I know.
Something worth noting ...
Seems there will be a "swear in" in Middleboro on Monday. Did not get the time. No, someone is not taking the oath of office, although it appears a few oaths will in fact be made at some offices.
The swear is as in profanity. I did a bit on the Middleboro by-law passed regarding use of profanity in public. It would be a bit unfair to describe it simply as a fine for swearing.
Well meaning and well intended laws make us feel good. Well meaning and well intended laws passed which erode, or most probably violate, certain fundamental principals simply so we can feel good or feel safer have a way, in the end, of doing neither.
I get why people would want something like this. Who hasn't sat down to eat a meal somewhere and hear someone, be it the teen or the parent, and even grandparent across the room launch into a profanity laced narrative about some compelling thought they feel all the world needs to share.
If you and I have a conversation and one of us has a slip of the tongue, most likely me, one tends to actually apologize to the listener, as a matter of form, as a matter of common courtesy.
Let's face it, profanity can have its place. But as with most words, the use should be sparingly and used with measured intent, and within the accepted parameters.
The free tongues we experience daily are more indicative of other evils that have crept into our society. Lack of respective, courtesy and common sense among them. Banning the use of words is not going to make the world a better place.
Yet having a swear in isn't exactly going to endear you either. I don't know. Maybe the shock value of something like that might work with some. I would think it would do more to galvanize those who passed the ban in the first place.
The Whales may yet find a home in the South Coast ...
Nope not the big, beautiful, graceful and intelligent creatures which swim in the water. The ones that role dice, play cards, and are courted by gaming establishments are the world.
I have outlined my stance on casinos before. This story deserves mention more for the comments about our local delegation than the on going legal battle (although that will have national and lasting impact if in fact the matter goes to the Supreme Court).
Whether the developer is truly serious about the time and money commitment to see this through remains to be seen. The fact that the statements are being made are a positive. Somebody is willing, at least at this point in time, to fight for something for the South Coast.
And by fighting, I mean looking to actually win the bout, not just take a few jabs, out on a show, and take the dive when your Boston based manager tells you to. right now it seems we have someone willing to go the distance for once.
I don't mind hearing occasionally that this was the best that could be done. Because at times that is in fact the case. But when you send someone out to fight for you fair share of the loafs of bread, and keep getting the end slices from the loaf of bread, well might be time to rethink either the strategy or replace the "fighter".
If you are a true supporter for the South Coast getting a casino on the actual South Coast, if it happens, remember it will be as a result of what is reported in today's story, not as a result of anything else.
Okay before I end today, I want to mention I supposedly have picked up a "fan" in Cambridge. Let's see if that is the case. If you read today's post send me an e-mail. By the way, hello from, M, D, C, S and L & L.
They know that you know what they know but we can't know what 'it' is that they know that you know what they know. This is like the biggest cliff hanger ever, next to "Who Shot J.R.?" of course.
ReplyDeleteRe the 'swear-in' in Middleboro, in one interview I heard the police state, and I'm paraphrasing here, that it's not meant toward folks swearing in normal conversation or if they drop their ice cream on the ground but rather it's to be used when the swearing is used as abuse or in a violent confrontation. There is so much wrong with the whole thing that it's ridiculous. It's like trying to enforce pornography laws when applied to art. One man's swear is another man's color commentary. G*d forbid my son with Tourette's should unleash one of his verbal tics when we're in Middleboro camping. Maybe he and I will go to the swear-in just for grins and giggles.
I did hate leaving you hanging but the PR guy told me that the PC thing for JR to do with the latest TS/SCI solution for the never ending SNAFU was not to let out to much information as the same could lead to an implementation of a DLP protocol which might jeopardize my source's standing in the NTN chain. Please accept this reply as my LOA for the suspense. Please keep this under your hat though because NALOPKT.
