Is it all a day late?

Quick post this A.M.

Quick question - can you list five positive things about our fair haven.  If you put aside the negatives for a moment, whether real or perceived, I think you can. I know I can. why don't I?  Because of the "pile on" effect.

If you care to respond, and feel it absolutely necessary to include any negatives, you must do so after you list the positives.

If no one does it, well nothing ventured results in nothing gained.

Speaking of which, we are going to be venturing in a whole bunch of different directions soon.  Let's deal with the simple reality of that.  Part of my version of that reality is the likelihood by January 31, 2015, for at least the TA article, we should have the legislation back and a STM held.  That is a likely time frame I think, assuming safe sailing through the waters of the legislature, which we are told by proponents should be no problem.

I have heard some criticism levied at me relative to what seems my "reversal" on the matter.  There is no reversal.  Over the course of time I have stated, repeatedly, once Town Meeting votes, it becomes what it is. Don't have to like it.  Don't have to give up the right to grouse about it. Don't have to lay down and play opossum for any future things, despite the professed wisdom and knowledge of some.

As far as what has transpired however, it will be the law of the land.  You embrace it, you learn to live with it, and to learn to deal within its framework. Time will eventually tell whether I will actually reverse my opinion on the article.  It will in fact take, in my humble opinion, a solid period of not less than three years for the article to begin to show its worth and merit.; and, for any article of such a matter, to be truthful.

And being truthful, every individual should hope this works really well.

It is pending. It will eventually come out of the legislature. Town Meeting will most probably, and probably rightly endorse the legislative action assuming that is a rubber stamp from Boston.  Sometimes folks, and more often than not, a half a loaf is better than nothing.

Enough of this until we get the blessing of our legislature.

Speaking of our legislature, on the national level, less than three months to the mid-terms.  Not that those are going to generate any real excitement about races we vote in.  Let's face it.  Ain't no republican upset in Massachusetts on the horizon in the feral races.  Not likely in the state races either.  There is still time for Coakley to pull a Coakley in the governors race.  The other state wide races, unlikely anything other than a (D) win.  I know we still have the primaries, but hey, will that really make a difference.

Elsewhere in the country though, polls are showing 9 toss ups in the senate at this point.  I think the number is 17 for the house.  As far as the house goes, assuming every toss up goes to the democrats, the party is still in the minority.

The magic number for a shift in the senate is 6 seats, with present polls project a change of 7. NOTE: way to early to get too excited one way or another on this.  Just pointing it out.

Doing so mainly because I don;t want to write about anything else, but it is something everyone should consider.  Heck, I could even start talking about 2016 and how awkward that one could be.  I mean the front runner for that one is has started tearing about the incumbent president, very politely mind you but also very noticeably.

Anyway ... should have used that last segment for the post yesterday on the true garbage day. In reality it may not all be garbage, just seems that it all is.

Enough.

Be safe.

  1. Just 5 positive things, that’s easy enough in no particular order:
    - Beautiful, accessible coastline.
    - The right mix of small town New England charm plus business and industry.
    - Comparatively Low taxes. That’s right, LOW taxes. We were looking at Mattapoisett and Rochester, for example, and for a house with the same appraised cost the taxes are nearly double. And we’re not using the schools in either town so there’s no advantage there for us.
    - Easy access to Boston, Providence, Cape, Newport
    - Full suite of town services
